BETWEEN GULF AND OCEAN
Things to see and do on vacation on the Rhuys peninsula
The Rhuys peninsula is a long peninsula that almost completely closes off the Gulf of Morbihan.
It’s packed with sights andactivities. Whether you’ve only got a day or a week, you’ll always find something to see or do.
If you like walking, you’ll be able to explore the length and breadth of the peninsula by following the coastal path or one of the many hikes. You can discover the Lasné salt marsh in Saint-Armel or marvel at the views over the gulf on the Pointe de l’Ours hike. Renting a bike is also a good idea if you have less time. Take advantage of your stay at a family campsite by the sea to rent a caravan near the playground.
The peninsula is famous for its birds! Try to spy some in one of the many birdwatching spots around Saint-Armel or Sarzeau. If you love history and architecture, you won’t be disappointed. Visit the 6,000-year-old Petit Mont cairn, the superb Château de Suscinio and theAbbey of Saint-Gildas de Rhuys, one of the oldest and most beautiful Romanesque churches in Brittany.
You may also be interested in the Musée des Arts, Métiers et Commerces in Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys, which showcases the region’s heritage through various collections of objects.
Finish your tour of the peninsula at the tip, Arzon and Port-Navalo. The beaches here are beautiful, especially Fogeo beach, listed on this map of the Golfe du Morbihan and not to be missed. Port-Navalo is the gateway to the Gulf. You’ll be amazed by the force and tumult created by the meeting of the Mor Braz and Mor Bihan, the two seas on either side of the peninsula that meet at Port-Navalo. This gully is one of the most powerful in Europe! A panoramic path allows you to admire the spectacle. Several companies link Port-Navalo to Locmariaquer and Larmor-Baden opposite, putting you right in the middle of the sea’s hustle and bustle.
From Port-Navalo, you can also explore the islands of the Golfe du Morbihan or the Bay of Quiberon. Or choose to relax in your camper van or tent on one of our spacious camping pitches near the heated swimming pool and sandy beach.
